Q: Do I list my foreign institutions in the Institutions Attended section of my application?

A: Yes. If you have attended a non-U.S/Canadian institution, you must select “444444-NON-U.S./CANADIAN (FOREIGN) INSTITUTION” for the name of college or university field under “Institution Information”. Enter the name of the foreign institution and country in the next two fields.

Q: Does PTCAS calculate GPAs for non-United States coursework?

A: No. PTCAS only calculates GPAs for United States Coursework.

Q: Should I send my Canadian transcripts to PTCAS?

A: PTCAS will accept original Canadian transcripts provided that they are in English. PTCAS is not able to accept Canadian transcripts issued in French. Programs may require you to send

  • original Canadian transcripts to PTCAS,
  • original Canadian transcripts directly to the program,
  • foreign transcript evaluation to PTCAS,
  • foreign transcript evaluation directly to the program, or
  • both an original Canadian transcript AND a foreign evaluation to PTCAS or the program.

Q: Am I required to send original foreign (non-U.S./Canadian) transcripts or Foreign Transcript Evaluations to PTCAS for my non-U.S. coursework?

A: No. Do NOT send original foreign transcripts to PTCAS.

Many PT programs require applicants to submit official foreign transcripts to an approved foreign transcript evaluation service for a course-by-course United States equivalency report (Foreign Transcript Evaluation). Each participating program has its own policy regarding whether it requires an original foreign transcript to be sent directly to the program or a Foreign Transcript Evaluations from an evaluation service. You MUST read each PT program page (PTCAS Directory) for instructions. PTCAS will forward any Foreign Transcript Evaluations received for your application to your designated PT programs. PTCAS will not determine whether you have submitted the proper document according to your designated programs’ requirements.

Note: Please keep in mind that PTCAS is only able to accept World Education Services (WES) evaluations. Please see the Foreign Transcripts and Courses section for further information, in addition to checking the individual program pages (PTCAS Directory) for instructions.

Q: If the program requires a foreign transcript evaluation, when should I request it?

A: If your designated PT program requires a foreign transcript evaluation, PTCAS highly recommends that you contact the foreign transcript evaluation service as early as possible. The services may take several weeks to process your foreign transcript once it is received.

Note: Please keep in mind that PTCAS is only able to accept World Education Services (WES) evaluations. Please see the Foreign Transcripts and Courses section for further information, in addition to checking the individual program pages (PTCAS Directory) for instructions.

Q: My designated programs require two different foreign evaluation services. Can I send my foreign transcripts to just one service?

A: PTCAS will not verify that you have used the correct service for a particular program. You must contact the PT program directly to determine if they will accept a foreign transcript evaluation report from a service other than the one listed in their admission requirements. If they do not, you must arrange for your foreign transcripts to be sent to each of the services required by your designated school(s).

Note: Please keep in mind that PTCAS is only able to accept World Education Services (WES) evaluations. Please see the Foreign Transcripts and Courses section for further information, in addition to checking the individual program pages (PTCAS Directory) for instructions.

Q: I have taken courses outside of the United States as part of study abroad. Do I list them in the “Coursework” section and the “Institutions Attended” section?

A: Yes. Enter your study abroad courses on your application. Study abroad is defined by PTCAS as courses that are taken through a foreign institution while the student is currently enrolled at a United States institution. If you have attended a study abroad program sponsored by a United States institution and all courses, hours, and grades appear on the United States transcript as regular itemized credit, you must list those study abroad courses in the “Coursework” section under the United States institution which granted you credit for them and select “Study Abroad” as the Special Classification. However, if the study abroad course grades and credits do not appear on your United States transcript, you must follow the program-specific rules for submitting foreign transcripts.

Q: Do I list coursework taken from Overseas United States institutions?

A: Yes. List all coursework that was taken at an Overseas United States institution.
