Tests

Q: Where do I send my GRE scores?

A: Arrange for the Educational Testing Service (ETS) to send your official GRE scores directly to each designated PT program that requires scores for admission. Many institutions have GRE codes that are unique to the PT program or department. Use the GRE codes listed on the PTCAS Web site! You MUST request ETS to send your GRE scores to each PTCAS program to which you are applying if GRE scores are required by the program.

Q: Will PTCAS also receive my GRE scores?

A: It depends. Go to GRE by Program. If the program has a “PTCAS” GRE code, ETS will send your official GRE scores to 1) PTCAS or 2) PTCAS and the program. If the program has a “university” code, PTCAS will not receive scores for that code. ETS will automatically send your official scores to the right program based on the code. There’s no “extra” step to send your scores to PTCAS.

Q: I sent my GRE scores to the PT program last year. Do I need to resend?

A: If you previously sent your GRE scores to a non-PTCAS university code, contact the program to determine if it will require you to re-send your official scores. Some PT programs do not accept GRE scores sent via PTCAS and/or do not pull GRE scores forward from previous cycles.  Go to GRE by Program to find the appropriate GRE code for each institution.  PTCAS will pull GRE scores previously sent forward to your new 2014-15 application.

Q: Do I really need to send my GRE scores to every program?

A: YES! Arrange for ETS to send your GRE scores to the correct GRE code for EVERY designated program.  If you don’t send your scores to the right code, the program will not receive your official scores and may consider your file incomplete.

Q: Is there a single GRE code for PTCAS?

A: No. There is no GRE code for PTCAS. You must arrange for ETS to send your GRE codes to each of your designated programs.

Q: Do all PT programs require the GRE for admission?

A: No. Not all PT programs require the GRE for admission. Review program requirements in the PTCAS Directory. If the GRE is not required by your designated programs, leave the Test section blank.

Q: Do I need to enter my GRE scores on the PTCAS application and request official scores?

A: YES, enter your GRE scores on the application if the GRE is required by one or more of your designated programs. If you do not enter your GRE scores on the application, programs may not know that you have (or will have) taken the GRE and may not consider your application for admission.

Q: Can I enter my highest GRE section scores from different test dates?

A: No. Do not mix-and-match GRE scores from different test dates when you enter them on the PTCAS application. If the GRE scores on the application do not match the official GRE scores from ETS, your designated program may not consider your application or revoke a previous offer of admission.

Q: What if I have taken the GRE more than once?

A: Enter data for all complete and planned test dates on the PTCAS application and arrange for your official GRE scores to be sent directly to the programs, if required. If you request official scores to be sent to one or more programs, ETS will automatically send all of your GRE scores for the past 5 years. Not all PT programs require the GRE for admission.

Q: Where do I send my TOEFL scores?

A: Arrange for ETS to send your official TOEFL scores to code 5312, the code for the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). This code was established for PTCAS applicants.

Q: I already sent my TOEFL scores to the PT program. Should I also send my TOEFL scores to code 5312?

A: Contact your designated PT programs directly to determine if they will require you to resend your scores to code 5312. PTCAS will not hold your file for missing TOEFL scores, but a program may not consider a file if the TOEFL scores are missing. TOEFL is only required by selected programs for non-native English speakers.
